Brahmatal Trek – Winter Snow Adventure!

Brahmatal Trek is a very famous Winter trek that offers great panoramic views of high Himalayan Peaks. It is very famous among trekkers who wish to trek in the snow. This adventure will take you to the top at an elevation of 12,250ft. Brahmatal trek is classified as a trek of moderate difficulty.

According to the mythological beliefs, Brahmatal is a lake where Lord Brahma has said to have meditated for several years. The place is counted as one of the best Himalayan trekking destinations. The trail will take you through two lakes, a large Himalayan meadows, beautiful valleys, hushed hamlets, streams and conifers and oaks forests. Brahmatal Trek offers captivating views of Himalayan Peaks, Chaukambha, Neelkanth, Hathi Ghoda.

This amazing snow adventure is long as 22 km and takes 6-7 days to cover. The trek starts from Kathgodam- a town in Nainital District, Uttarakhand. From Kathgodam the trek will move to the basecamp Lohajung. Lohajung is a small village located in Chamoli District, in the Garhwal Himalayas. It is considered as the basecamp to some popular treks like Roopkund trek, Bedni Bugyal, and Brahmatal trek. Further, the trek moves towards Bekaltal Lake- a lake that comes during the route of Brahmatal Lake. You will pass by beautiful oak forests. It is also known as the best camping site of Brahmatal Lake. The lake gets frozen in winters and offers captivating views of the surroundings.

Bekaltal is the last stop to reach the final destination. The trek moves forward and takes you to the enchanting lush green forests and beautiful meadows.

Brahmatal lake is perched at an elevation of 3,400m from Bekaltal. You will see the beautiful scenic views of the Himalayan peaks Trishul and  Nanda Ghunti on the right side and Roopkund on the other side. Feel the breezy winds on your face and feast your eyes with the best views. Spend some time near the frozen lake and see the pristine white snow all around. You will see layers of mountain ranges from a mile.

Usually, this trek ends at Lohajung. From Brahmatal you will start trekking towards the Daldun village. You will be passing through Chota Jhandidar and Bada Jhandidar on your way. The trail will be a magnificent mountain ridge, with sloping valleys on the other side.

And, this amazing adventure ends from Daldun to Lohajung.

During the trek, you can opt for your stay in guesthouses and homestays in the villages. And get a chance to explore the culture and lifestyle of locals. You will not find food up there at the summit. During the trial, you will spot some tea stalls near the villages. You have to take a cook who can prepare a meal for you. And do not forget to take your personal utensils.

The best time to do this trek is in Winters. The lake gets frozen and looks beautiful. The temperature remains very low as -4 degree in night and 10 degrees during the day time. It is advisable to avoid trekking in monsoons, as the trail gets slippery and the region is prone to unexpected landslides. Snowfall is very common at the higher altitude.
